List of Personnel Belonging to the Confederate States Navy,

Captured at Arkansas Post, January 12, 1863.

transcribed by Terry Foenander.

The following list of personnel, both officers and enlisted men, were transcribed from page 117, series 1, volume 24, of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of the Rebellion [other references to this source, in the list, will indicate it as ORN, followed by the series, volume and page numbers]. Three of the officers listed here actually held dual appointments within the army and the navy, at the time of their capture. Two others were actually army personnel. Some of the officers and crew had also seen service aboard the side wheeled steamer CSS Pontchartrain, which operated on the Mississippi River, along the Louisiana coast, and later, on the White River, in Arkansas. This fact will be indicated against their names.

Fort Hindman, at Arkansas Post, Arkansas, situated some 117 miles below Little Rock, on the Arkansas River, was attacked by joint Union forces under Major General John McClernand, and Lieutenant David Dixon Porter, and captured on January 11, 1863, with about 5000 personnel on the Confederate side being taken. A small force of Confederate naval personnel were amongst those captured, and their names are included in this list. The names have been rearranged in alphabetical order.
