The image shown below is a copy of a Confederate States Navy document in the collections of the Naval Historical Center, Washington, D.C.

It is an authority to deduct part of Poe's salary for allotment to the beneficiary named, in this case Elizabeth Poe, who may have been his mother, sister or wife.

The Naval Historical Center has given its kind permission for the reproduction of the document on the Internet, and it is hoped that this may assist in the study of the Confederate Navy, as well as genealogical research on the subject named.

There is no one of this name listed on the rosters shown in Series 2, Volume 1 of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of the Rebellion. However, there is a person of this name who served in the North Carolina infantry, but the dates relative to his service seem to indicate that it may have been a different person altogether.
