REGULATIONS FOR THE
CONFEDERATE STATES SCHOOL-SHIP PATRICK HENRY.
CHAPTER 1.
ORGANIZATION.
1.
The C.S. School-Ship, Patrick Henry, shall be under the
supervision of the officer in charge of the office of Ordnance and Hydrography,
and he shall personally inspect the vessel at least once a year.
2.
A commandant, of rank not lower than that of a lieutenant,
will have the immediate government and command of the school-ship, and will be
held responsible for its discipline and good management. All communications to the Navy Department
on subjects connected with, or relating to the ship, are to be made, or
forwarded by the commandant to the officer in charge of the office of Ordnance
and Hydrography.

An executive officer shall also be attached to the ship, whose
rank shall not be below that of 2d lieutenant. He shall be the executive officer of the school-ship, and also
in charge of either the department of seamanship, gunnery, or navigation.
4.
There shall be attached to the ship two officers, of rank not
lower than that of master, who, in addition to the duties of the ship, shall
have charge, each, of one of the departments of seamanship, gunnery, or
navigation.
5.
No officer of the navy shall exercise military command on
board the school-ship unless subordinate to the commandant, excepting the
officer of the navy who may at the time be in charge of the office of Ordnance
and Hydrography.
6.
There shall be attached to the school-ship, a surgeon or
assistant surgeon, paymaster or assistant paymaster, master, secretary, and
such warrant and petty officers, and other persons of inferior ratings, as may
be authorized by the Secretary of the Navy.
7.
There shall also be attached to the ship the following
professors, viz:
One Professor of Mathematics.
One Professor of English Studies.
One Professor of Modern Languages.
8. The relative rank and precedence of the members of the academic staff to be determined by the date of commission or appointment.
