Statistics of the Volunteer Officers of the United States Navy.

by Terry Foenander.

The following statistics of some of the volunteer (and a number of regular) officers who served in the Union Navy during the Civil War have been extracted from the rolls available at the National Archives. It is just a small sampling of the information available from that source, and will be updated regularly.

The rolls were sent in to the Navy Department at certain intervals and are arranged by name of vessel, followed by date of report. The information in most cases included the name of the officer, followed by his rank, nativity and date of birth, and in some instances the state of enlistment.
