UNION NAVY DEATHS DURING THE WAR.

Terry Foenander.

The following details of deaths reported to the Navy Department were obtained from the Washington, D.C., Daily National Intelligencer, which commenced publication of this information at the beginning of 1863, and continued doing so every week until the end of 1864, with occasional listings after that date. The listings included death details of naval and marine personnel, as well as other personnel connected with the Union Navy, such as contrabands who sometimes served aboard Union vessels, and pensioners who died in Naval asylums. Some soldiers are also listed, perhaps those who had been attached to naval vessels. Each name is accompanied by a notation number which refers to the particular issue of the Intelligencer in which the notice appeared. These references are shown at the end of the table. Where possible I have included additional details in the remarks column, with a reference to the source of that material.

This is an ongoing project and additional names and details will be added regularly.
